There are numerous reasons why Kerala has been a focal point of many people. One of them is the authentic delicacy; the other major factor is natural health treatment, Ayurveda. Ayurveda which is considered the fifth Veda is a way of life where the mental and physical well being of human beings are taken care of. This centuries year old health care system is being nurtured worldwide. As a result of growing popularity, many research centres are being established in to bring forth the complete benefits of Ayurveda in Kerala. The whole idea relies on the fact that there are three ‘doshas’ (defect or problem) in every human body and that they should be in perfect balance. The imbalances of the three ‘doshas’, viz; vāta (wind), pitta (bile) and Kapha (phlegm), create illness. Through diets, herbal medicines, massages with herbal oils and so on the balance is regained and thus wellness is attained.

Ayurveda has been of great merit for India and particularly Kerala when seen from an international perspective. People from all over the world come in search of places where Ayurvedic treatments are available. As said already this is a lifestyle treatment method and thus takes time to create a balance and wellness in body and mind. Though this has been analysed as a drawback and more people have started adopting quicker treatment options like allopathy, Ayurveda has its own merits and charm like no other.
It treats the root of the illness rather than treating the symptoms. It focuses on one’s physical, mental and emotional state to attain deeper healing. Detoxification of the body is practised by herbalized treatments and a special diet. Yet another interesting fact is that age, seasons, time of day, contributes to the effective practice of health. The ultimate aim of Ayurveda is to preserve health by preventing diseases for the wellbeing of the mind and health.
